“Rata Ekata” National Operation: 852 Suspects Arrested in Island-wide Drug Raids
COLOMBO: The Police Media Division has announced that 852 suspects were arrested during 847 raids conducted within a 24-hour period under the “Rata Ekata” (Country Together) national operation. This initiative, which began on October 30, 2025, aims to disrupt the drug supply chain, reduce demand, and eliminate drug trafficking across Sri Lanka.
Following the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the daily report for March 20, 2026, highlights the following seizures and legal actions:
Major Drug Seizures:
According to official police data, the following quantities of narcotics were confiscated during the operations:
Heroin: 378 g and 333 mg
Ice (Crystal Meth): 502 g and 282 mg
Cannabis (Ganja): 03 kg and 441 g
Cannabis Plants: 31,684 plants
Narcotic Pills: 1,946 pills
Other Substances: 01 g of Kush, 06 g of Hashish, 238 g of Madana Modaka, and 49 g of Mawa
Legal and Rehabilitation Progress:
Out of the total suspects apprehended, detention orders have been obtained for 05 individuals to facilitate further investigations. Additionally, 02 individuals have been directed to rehabilitation centers.
The “Rata Ekata” operation remains a multi-pronged approach focusing on expanding raids, rehabilitating addicts, and empowering the community against drug abuse. The report was issued by Attorney-at-Law Friedrich Utler, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Police Media Spokesman.
