New WhatsApp Hotline to Report Crimes in Western Province
The Police Media Division (PMD) has officially introduced a dedicated WhatsApp hotline for the public to provide information regarding criminal activities specifically within the Western Province.
Launched on March 17, 2026, this 24-hour service aims to curb organized crime and drug trafficking by providing a direct, digital link between citizens and the police.
Key Areas for Reporting
Citizens are encouraged to share information, including text messages, photos, or videos, related to:
Organized Crime: Activities by criminal gangs or syndicates.
Drug Trafficking: Sale, distribution, or transport of illegal narcotics.
Illegal Activities: Any other unlawful acts occurring within the province.

Confidentiality & Operations
The hotline is monitored by a Special Operations Room established at the Office of the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) – Western Province.
100% Privacy: The Sri Lanka Police has issued a strong assurance that the identity and confidentiality of all informants will be strictly protected.
Real-time Response: Information received will be used to trigger immediate investigations and raids by relevant divisions.
By utilizing this digital platform, the police aim to make crime reporting more accessible while ensuring that those who assist in maintaining public safety can do so without fear of exposure.
