Under the guidance of the Hon. Speaker, the staff of the Parliament of Sri Lanka organized a sparkling Christmas Carol Service for the children of the Staff and affiliated staff members. This event was held on the 23rd of December within the parliamentary premises. Rev. Fr. Chrishnaka Dilan Perera, Assistant Administrator Archdiocesan Lands & Properties, in representation of His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo graced the Christmas Carol Service as the Chief Guest.
The event was aimed to foster harmony and coexistence among all ethnicities and religions. It was attended by the Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne, Department heads and Members of Staff.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the Christmas tree, which had been beautifully set up in the parliamentary premises.
Members of the Parliament staff joined together enthusiastically in singing carols. The families of the staff and affiliated staff, including their children were present at the event held. Various engaging and entertaining activities were also organized especially for the children, and gifts were distributed, adding joy to the occasion. The event was further enlivened by a spectacular fireworks display, creating a visually stunning conclusion to the evening.
In her remarks, the Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera highlighted that the event was made possible through the financial support of the Parliament’s Special Projects Committee Fund and staff unions and Associations.
