Special Workshop to Promote Cadet Activities in the Northern Province Focused on National Reconciliation

For nearly 150 years, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has fulfilled the national responsibility of shaping the Sri Lankan youth into disciplined, responsible, and patriotic leaders who respect diverse perspectives. Expanding this mission further, a special workshop aimed at building national reconciliation and a strong sense of brotherhood among school students in the Northern Province was held on the 17th at the Northern Province Governor’s Office auditorium in Jaffna.

Key Objectives of the Workshop

The primary intent is to develop cadet activities as a major co-curricular program implemented within the school system jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defense. Specifically:

Promoting national reconciliation.

Creating a strong bond among the youth community.

Strengthening national identity through cadet activities.

Special Focus and Participation

The workshop was held under the patronage of the Governor of the Northern Province, Hon. Nagalingam Vedanayagam. During the session, the Director of the National Cadet Corps, Major General A.P.C.R. Prematilaka (RSP USP NDC), briefed officials on several key matters:

Recruitment of new Cadet Platoon Commanders.

Establishing new Cadet Platoons in schools across the Northern Province.

The event was attended by 88 Principals from schools in the Jaffna District, along with the Secretary to the Northern Province Governor, the Secretary to the Provincial Ministry of Education, Zonal Education Directors of the Jaffna District, and senior officers of the National Cadet Corps.

The resurgence of the Cadet movement in the North marks a “Golden Era” for youth empowerment.

“The National Cadet Corps stands as a vital pillar of Sri Lankan society, acting as a bridge between the State and the younger generation. Our goal is to gift society with practical individuals capable of facing challenges with patience.”
